A preliminary list of Monarch Watch tags retrieved from Mexico last month is now available:

2007 Season Recoveries List

The records are ordered by tag code so that you can easily look for tags you have used. We are in the process of adding them to our Tag Recovery Database and hope to have the complete records online soon.

For further discussion of the recoveries this year, see our “2007 Season Tag Recoveries” posting made earlier this month.

I have been tagging for 4 years and this is my first recovered tag! I am thrilled!!! I was able to visit the sanctuaries in March of this year. My tag was recovered a week before I was there. What a wonderful conclusion to my trip!
Wouldn’t it be great if everyone who tags would send in an extra 5 or 10 dollars so Chip and the staff could pay for those tags left in Mexico?

I saw a monarch in my garden on April 25th – the earliest I have ever seen one here in West St. Louis County, MO. She laid many eggs on the milkweeds. However, I am very concerned as the milkweeds are only a few inches above ground. If the eggs develop into larvae, there won’t be enough milkweed leaves to sustain them. Has anyone else had monarchs lay eggs this early in the season and what will happen if larvae appear?
