Monarch Caterpillars Alive & Well In NC

Postby sandyhays » Mon Sep 07, 2009 1:07 pm

I found my butterfly "babies" today, I found 1 fairly large one on my milkweed, and two other smaller ones on my bronze fennel, all happily chomping away.
I also found a very large praying mantis stalking one of the babies. The PM was relocated to another area of the yard :-)

Sandy - am happy you are finding monarch cats on your milkweed. However, the photo you shared shows a black swallowtail cat - they feed on fennel, parsley & other herbs. Monarch cats feed strictly on milkweed. I raise a few swallowtails every year in addition to monarchs..............
