Only 2 Monarchs, but 1 layed eggs

Postby NickiM » Thu Aug 20, 2009 10:37 am

I've only seen 2 Monarchs in my yard this summer. But, I did find 8 cats on my swamp milkweed. I brought them inside and all 8 have formed a chrysalis. I hope the 2nd butterfly I saw leaves me some little tiny egg presents also.

Hi Niki -am curious where you are located (and how old you are, if you don't mind my asking). I'm in west St. Louis County. There is a lot more activity here over the past week - seeing monarchs every day but not many eggs since my first batch of 13 in JUly - they have now all enclosed except for one. I just posted some photos on the forum Rearing Monarchs. I am enjoying your postings.............

Hi Pixie,

I live in Hannibal in a resendential area. My yard is one of the few that isn't all grass. I'm sure that's one of the reasons I'm not seeing very many butterflies. I used to live in Kirksville in a house with 4 acres of pasture land and a 1000 square foot perenial flower garden and I saw a lot more butterflies there. I'm in my late 40's. I've really enjoyed reading everyone's posts, and I'm definitely enjoying raising these caterpillars.
