monarch eggs

Postby monarchlady » Tue Aug 23, 2005 7:46 pm

Have searched all summer - found 13 eggs (from my own released monarchs in middle of June) since then I have looked in many locations - found a few over the summer. Yesterday, I found a total of 15 eggs in two different locations. This am - one egg so far has hatched. I figure this is last batch for summer - How's it looking out there?

I had them like crazy but things seem to have slowed a bit but then the weather is cooler than it has been. Does that slow things down? I release my 50th yesterday, woohoo :)

update on egg search - found 15 total in three locations - one has emerged so far - sad to think this will be the last batch for this summer. How's collecting out there?

No new eggs here in the last week. And the ones I've released are not hanging around; they're on their way outta here.

Still finding eggs and 1st instar cats

Postby ButterflyLady_IL » Sat Aug 27, 2005 9:42 pm

Here in West Central IL (35 miles east of the Mississippi and South of I-80) I am still finding eggs and 1st instar caterpillars. Today I found 8 eggs and 16 tiny cats and 2 larger cats, just at our home place. So the adults are still breeding and hanging around. Where in IL are you, Monarch Lady?

All the ones I'm releasing are leaving, only 2 of the first 50 stayed in the gardens even overnight. Had not seen any eggs for quite a while until yesterday a large but worn female stayed all day and left a few new eggs.
