Our first egg-laying visitor was a well-worn female who arrived the last week of June and left a couple dozen eggs. Due to being called out-of-state unexpectedly, I eventually had to release all of those caterpillars back into the gardens to an uncertain future, although we did find 3 chrysalides upon our return.
Throughout the rest of July we've been finding a couple of eggs each day. Finally, today we found 31 eggs and 3 caterpillars. So it's looking like after a slow start, it will turn out to be a pretty good season over here after all.
