Found 47 eggs this weekend

Postby texas butterfly » Mon Jun 29, 2009 11:00 pm

However, I think some of them are going to be Queen so they are not all Monarch and on Monday.

Now putting each egg in separate cup and will monitor their progress.

Seems that a lot of leaves had one egg on them and some leaves had 2 eggs. That may be where the Queen and Monarch each put eggs on the leaf, but I'll have to see.

5 have hatched. I'll be inspecting this closer since some are most likely queens.

Looked again, and found 10 more eggs this morning.

The aphids seem to have come back. I had to wash them and brush them off of a couple of leaves.

Found the clear SOLO cups, using 2 stacked together seems to make a neat CAT raising environment. When they get bigger, I'll move them into a butterfly tent. I may have to order one of the bigger tents or cages that has been suggested by others in the forums.

It would be neat to have a 2 foot deep x 5 feet long and 3 feet high place to put PUPAs.

What the butterfly house had was a good solution if someone might have 50 to 100 PUPAs at the same time. It was almost just like a WINDOW opening to a house.

What a thought??? You could take a Window on your house and remove the screen. Cats could PUPA behind the screen. Unfortunately there probably wouldn't be enough room for butterflies to spread wings, so you'd really have to design something similar to a window but bigger.

And then you'd have to be able to sanitize this Window box so as to lessen the chance of spreading OE.
