We are seeing just a few monarchs right now. In addition to the tropical milkweed that we have planted for the last few years....last year we found pods (by accident) of a native milkweed... common milkweed (Asclepias syriaca) . We planted a flat of them, gave some away, but the 40 or so that we planted, came back and are bigger than ever! They were up and running early on and we had cats on them two months ago so I am thinking some of these we are seeing today are a result of having the native perennials around. Now they are very speical to us and we are looking into other native milkweed that will come back each year and try and cut down on so much tropical, though they seem to like it. So we'll see how that goes. If anyone would like any seeds from the pods when they are ready this fall just ask and I will be glad to send a few. I really love the fragrant of these milkweed too, it is sweeter than any rose I have ever smelled. And the seed pods were found in a field near my moms home just 3 months before she passed so they are very special to me. God bless and keep up the good work everyone.
