Carpenter Bees

Postby drexel.n@gmail » Thu Jun 11, 2009 9:04 am

Is it possible that carpenter bees are keeping away the butterflies? I haven't seen a monarch yet this spring in my yard, but boy are the carpenter (and honey) bees happy! They are really enjoying my butterfly weed and my swamp weed. I'm tickled to have them, but only if they aren't preventing the butterflies.

Thanks!!

I'd say the answer to that is no. I have Monarchs and still have the carpenter and honey bees.

Nancy

I'd have to agree with Mona. My opinion is that, at least in our area, we have had series upon series of high winds or cooler temperatures and rain to keep them roosting. ALthough I have 13 cats now, none came from my garden with over 75 milkweeds. I have onle seen one Monarch so far.

I have several photos from last year showing Monarchs and bees of various species on the same purple coneflower.

Be patient, when they get the weather, they'll be there in great numbers.

Thanks Dwayne and Mona! I have more and more flowers blooming each week, so I will be patient and enjoy what I have. I appreciate the notes.
