Newbie to Monarch Waystations - any suggestions?

Postby siansimon » Wed Jun 10, 2009 10:16 pm

I planted my waystation behind our barn on a flat piece of grass. I killed off the grass with plastic sheets, then removed them and put down 4 railroad ties in a square and 2 yards of topsoil. Planted all the seeds from the waystation kit and they are coming up, the tallest is about 1 1/2 inches. Except for Joe Pye Weed. I only had time to put them in the fridge for a few weeks after I got the seeds. Any ideas on how to get Joe Pye Weed to germinate when it is average 85 degrees? Thanks! Sian

Don't cover it. Sprinkle on the soil and then pat it down so that the seed makes contact with the soil. Those Joe Pye seeds are tiny.

Propagation: Eupatorium maculatum are propagated by division of older plants and by seed in the spring. Seed germinates in 30-90 days at 55° F (12°C).
