Great Life Cyle Project for Early Elementary Kids

Postby SarahA. » Sat May 23, 2009 9:13 am

My son's Kindergarten teacher had a fabulous, easy project for them to reinforce the life cycle. She had them cut out a large circle from any color contruction paper. They drew a large X completely across (a cross would do as well) to separate the circle into 4 quarters. In one section they drew a leaf and made little dots on it to signify the eggs. On the next they drew leaf and then first colored and then glued a piece of corkscrew (rotinit) pasta to signify the catepillar. On the third they drew the pupa and on the forth they first colored and then glued a piece of bow tie pasta to signify the butterfly. They were cute, easy, fun and really reinforced the cycle!

The Monarch Teacher Network has that in their curriculum guide. They also teach this craft to teachers during their works. It's fun for kids and adults.

The "Journey’s and Transformations – The Monarch Butterfly Story DVD" is a must have to show kids. I loaned mine to a teacher. I hope I get it back.
