Milkweed, Milkweed, Where are the Monarchs?

Postby Mona Miller » Fri Mar 27, 2009 4:46 pm

I was out potting up my swamp milkweed today. So far, the common hasn't pushed through the earth. Inside I have about 300 little tropical milkweeds under the lights. It actually got up to 60 todays and boy are the weeds growing fast.

Yes, frost will kill tropical seedlings. But, those swan plants (africian milkweed, Asclepias physocarpa) I've seen more mature plants take a few frost in the fall and still looked green. Blood flower (tropical milkweed, Asclepias curassavica) is not as hardy.
