Dear Mona - I purchased the Butterfly Photographer's Handbook by your friend William Folsom through the Monarch Watch portal to Amazon..............It is a wonderful book............I am an advanced amateur photographer & have been photographing butterflies for many years. I think Mr. Folsom's handbook will be an excellent guide to photographers new to butterfly photography as he tells it plain & simple. I bought it as I enjoy photography books and there is always something new to learn. I noticed that he has mentioned you a few times in the book. I would like to e-mail Mr. Folsom but I didn't find an e-mail address in the book.............Could you provide me with an e-mail address whereby I could tell him how much I am enjoying his book?

Bill's contact information can be found on the above website. Bill and I have been volunteering at Meadowlark Gardens in Vienna, Virginia for several years. I raise many species of butterflies and Bill loves photographing them. Bill also photographs many wild butterflies in the United States and other parts of the world.

Dwayne - I see that you live in Salem, MA............I went to nursing school at Salem Hospital, married a man from Lynn & lived in Peabody.............I worked at Salem Hospital for several years after graduation...........We left the area back in '72............I have many friends and relatives in the Salem/Lynn/Peabody/Beverly area............Whenever I "come home", I generally spend several days on the North Shore.............I have many wonderful memories of my years there................

I am a 12-year "transplant" from the Midwest. But I love it here except for the winter (we are boaters). Became Monarch (Butterfly) enthusiasts after visiting the butterfly farms on Aruba, St. Thomas, and Grand Cayman. Now we are absolutely consumed by our garden and our "babies". I cannot wait for our first Monarch this spring. We will welcome him/her with our Monarch flag when he/she arrives in May.

By the way, the wife has pretty much lived on this same street her entire life, imagine that!

I am finding that you don't always have to leave home to find paradise. I felt bad that I haven't gotten to go to Mexico to see the Monarchs, but tuition for kids is taking priority. But, last year I had a huge crop of Pipevine Swallowtails. They are the most beautiful butterfly. They were fluttering all over my garden and I would sit there in my outdoor swing and admire them. Then, it came to me that I didn't have to go anywhere, that I was sitting in paradise.

I raise anywhere from 2-300 Monarchs a year, too. Not any easy job to cater to caterpillars, but it sure is a rewarding venture.
