Still green in VA!

Postby Tia » Tue Nov 25, 2008 2:23 pm

As the season fades from memory, all our milkweed is dormant EXCEPT the African one! In a pot on the fairly exposed eastern patio, and next to the house on the north side, it's defiantly green. This one is sometimes called Asclepias fruticosa (though it has several other scientific names, and I wish whomever would make up their minds). It's the one with round, fuzzy green pods and the picturesque nicknames like Family Jewels or Tennis Balls.

Another friend in Woodbridge, Virginia had this one seed all over the place this year from plants that set seed to the wind last year. Her neighbors had seedlings too.

I have been out of town since 11/4. I just got a chance to go outside yesterday and my Asclepias fruticosa is still green, too. I got the seeds from Monarch Watch in their Waystation kit for California.

I ended up sending the rest of the seeds from that kit to a friend in California.
