A beautiful male Monarch fluttered up from the restored prairie yesterday while we were out helping collect native seed for prairie restoration. Last Monarch I saw was around the first of Oct. Located at latitude 41°58' our peak migration is early-mid Sept. Had my net but not my tags so, after traipsing in circles around the meadow, finally netted him and took him home to tag. Fortunately, home is about 2 1/2 miles south west which gave him a little assistance on his journey. Warm weather is still forecasted for a few days but unfortunately the winds are from the SSE and won't be changing until cooler weather comes with a long front of rain in just two days from now. Wish him well!
