Help!

Postby dzyg » Tue Aug 09, 2005 7:56 am

Went outside this morning and right by where our sump pump runs out of the house I found a buttefly on the ground. Saw the empty crysallis just above where the water goes out (we never buried the line). It must have just hatched this morning and the water knocked it to the ground. It's wings are all wrinkled and not fully extended. Is there anything I can do for it?

Thanks! :(

Update

I had brought it in the house and put it in my butterfly cage but I noticed it had problems holding on. I had to run up town quickly and when I came back I looked at it more closely. It seems its front leg is also broken, can't use one of them. I decided the most humane thing to do was to help it go to sleep permanently. I feel so bad for it. Here I try to help Monarchs as much as I can and then something on our house ends up killing one. =(

This happened to me last year and there's nothing you can do if it's already dry. I put mine in the freezer and it just went to sleep and never woke up.
