OE and other lepidoptera?

Postby laurel » Sat Sep 06, 2008 11:49 am

Hi,

I'm curious if OE spores can affect Giant Swallowtails or Sphinx moths. I had a monarch chrysalis open partly, but fail to fully eclose. I haven't tested for OE, but I realize it's a possibility. A Giant Swallowtail chrysalis is attached to the same box that contained the failed chrysalis.

Does anyone know if OE spores could infect a Swallowtail? (Or Sphinx moth - I'm raising those, too.)

Thanks,
Laurel

OE only affects the milkweed butterflies: Monarchs, Queens, Soldiers

But, your Giant Swallowtail could have a bacteria problem.

Apparently, both bacterial and viral. Here are recommendations for how to keep Monarchs healthy--this would apply to all butterflies.

Hope some of this helps. :D
