Had to take a moment to share our tag and release today. We tagged our 2nd and 3rd butterflies. My kids each gently cupped a butterfly, walked them out of our newly designated "Butterfly Tent" to our Meadow Garden and let them go. One flew off pretty much right away, but the other one flew in circles over our heads, spiraling higher and higher into the blue sky. It was a beautiful sight!
(One could argue that it found her one wing a tad heavy and had to get used to/adjusted to the weight difference before she could find "her wings"...

or maybe she was trying to get her bearings... Whatever reason, it seemed like she was reluctant to leave us, lingering on and saying "thank you" and "good bye" -- My kids were enchanted.

A few minutes after we saw her reach a height even with the roof of our house and fly off towards the woods (DIRECTLY SOUTH, if anyone's interested), we saw another Monarch butterfly float in over the fence -- sipping nectar in our Meadow Garden -- and it was tagged! She stayed around, stopping at flowers as well as the hummingbird feeder. Most likely the 2nd one that was released before, but again, my kids loved it that she was enjoying our garden.
