Anybody seen monarchs with tags CAW550-CAW559, or a red star

I tagged my monarchs in 2003, and I havn't seen my tags listed in the recoveries anywhere? Has anyone seen my tagged monarchs?

In case anyone who works for monarch watch was wondering, the tags were under the name "Michael Petrosky". I dont even know if you ever received them, so If you did, please tell me.

I re-sent my tag info from 2003. My old email was on that sheet, so now monarch watch will have my new email. Hopefully they found some of my tagged butterflys!

Hi Keith:

We are working on our tag recovery database and hope to have the complete data from all years of tagging online in a searchable format very soon.

The tag recovery is very good, but I did a search for NY 2003 taggers which I qualify for, and my name is not listed. Did you even get my tag results, I sent them twice through the mail.

Keith, maybe it's just that none of yours have been recovered yet? I think your name would only be in the database if one of your butterflies was recovered; is that right? The odds against recoveries seem pretty long, if you read the "Mexico" blog it sounds like they found only 2 butterflies with evidence of having been tagged out of a stack that had tens of thousands of dead ones to sort through. Most of ours weren't recovered - but we feel very lucky to have had one or two a year out of hundreds of tags.

Mabye your right, but they should still mention my name anyway since I was trying to help the monarchs.

You mean like a participants' database in addition to the recovery database? So we can see where all the taggers are located? That would be interesting ... and they must already have that data, or at least they would have recorded to whom they sold and shipped the tags.

Yeah that's what I meant, so that way I at least know they got my data sheet. I wrote on the back of the data sheet before I sent it for them to email me if they got it, I received no email from them.

Hi Keith:

Let me clear up a few things for you. Pat is correct that the Tag Recovery Database only contains records of tags (over 10,000) that have been reported/recovered. At this time we are not providing a database that contains the records for all tags applied due to the facts that we do not have all of the data in digital format (yet) and the number of records we are talking about is in the neighborhood of 700,000.

We receive and process 1,000s of datasheets each year - this is no small task and any "extra" information or notes (especially on the back of a datasheet) are easily overlooked. As stated on the datasheet, we ask that you submit a copy of your datasheets (in case they are lost/damaged in shipping); in the event that one of your tags is recovered and we have not received your sheets we will contact you for the information. At this time we are just not set up to be able to provide confirmation of the receipt of datasheets - you can always send them to us via a trackable service, but this is probably overkill.

We have kicked around the idea of a "Monarch Watcher" database and haven't yet implemented one due to too many privacy concerns. If you have suggestions for us please feel free to contact us by posting comments/suggestions in the appropriate forum or via email.

Keith, I know it's frustrating not seeing your tags were recovered, but as they said, odds are against it and the ones listed are the lucky ones, I guess. I am just hoping for the thrill of seeing one of mine on the list someday.

Jim, my thanks go out to you and all the people involved in this project. It surely is a huge undertaking, and your website has been an excellent source of information and "connection" with others who are also interested in the miracle of monarchs. Thank you so much for all your time, effort, and enthusiasm!
