getting rid of fleas organically

Postby realgoddess66 » Fri Feb 02, 2007 8:44 pm

does anyone know what to use to rid my pets of fleas. stuff from the vet works for about a week and i am afraid of making them toxic by using that stuff too often. dog under 10 lbs 1 cat 6lb and 18 years old and 14.5 lb cat 9 yo.
please help with any organic ways that you may have heard of. i have tried lemon juice diacameteous earth...still haven't fazed them. all everyone keeps telling me is florida is flea city with all that sand
my pets never had fleas before moving here in october....poor things must think i brought them to hell
HELP ME PLEASE!
May the road rise to meet you
May the wind be always at your back
The sun shine warm upon your face
The rains fall soft upon your fields
And until we meet again
May God hold you in the hollow of his Hand

If you have access, dip them into the ocean. The salty water kills the fleas.

Builders lime sprinkled in house and yard (building supplies), it is worth a try. I have never tried this, but am doing some searching for you.

Some good ideas here, too.

My poor doggie die just shortly after the dog food contamination so no more fleas to deal with.

Good luck

By "stuff from the vet" I assume you mean Advantage? That product is usually pretty effective at stopping the flea cycle. Is it possible that the fleas are breeding in your carpet and jumping back onto your pets?

It makes a huge difference if you don't have carpeting. It will also make a difference if you keep your pets inside (not to mention cats kill a lot of native species and migratory songbirds). If your animals are running out and in, of course they will bring in fleas, and the fleas will reproduce like crazy in the carpet.

Planet Natural has some natural flea products. I'd ask a vet's opinion of the ingredients just to be safe. http://www.planetnatural.com/site/flea-carpet-powder.html

Once you get the carpet fleas under control, comb your pets with a fine-toothed comb every day or so. Crush the fleas you find, or drown them in rubbing alcohol.

Good luck! :)
