I've taken several photos of our milkweed but none of them really showed how much or how little we have. Now that the garden is shutting down for the winter the milkweed shows up really well in contrast to the rest of the waning plants. We have started another plot of garden dedicated to milkweed, and moved 25 plants there earlier this summer. These all spread by roots over 10 years...and we also had pulled out a great number of the plants several years ago when I saw how they were invading my perennial bed. Now of course, I'm trying to encourage more growth. This year I allowed two plants to grow to seed pod stage and have scattered the seeds around our property (3 acres) but we're depending more on root growth for propagation.
This is the same garden in full bloom, July 30.07. This year I haven't done a THING in the garden...the Monarchs got my full attention! Well, I also spend a "little bit of time" on my computer.
We have a place in Estero, between Naples and Ft. Myers and spend December, January and February there.
