planting seeds gathered from pods

Postby jen » Sat Aug 18, 2007 11:18 am

Hi all,
I was wondering how much success some of you have had with planting seeds from your own pods. I always bought milkweed plants, but would like to plant seeds from the pods on some of my old plants. How to I do this? Do I need to stratify them first? Soak? Can I just directly sow straight from the pods? When is the best time? I am in So. Jersey. By the way, the are common milkweeds. Any ideas? Can someone direct me?
I appreciate any help. Thanks!

Thanks, Butterflyman,
I will give it a try this fall. I always wondered how nature does it, milkweed pods left to germinate on there own seem to produce new plants faithfully the following year, I thought possibly  , it I appreciate your help,
