Possibly a yellow-and-black was a tiger swallowtail instead of a monarch? We're up north of Philadelphia and it's still too early for monarchs here, it's been chilly; whereabouts in the country are you?

i live on long island near centereach on a map the three i saw 2 where yellow the third was a black. they stopped just long enough to get a quick look.
i hope this year is as good as it was last year i had so many visit my garden, with the butterfly bushes and milkweed.
i even raised a couple that was fun i never did that before.
