Incomplete Chrysalis?

Postby k8889 » Thu May 05, 2005 7:24 pm

I have two crysalids that haven't completely shed their skin. They look extremely strange. One shed incompletely yesterday and is still green, but he doesn't look right. Do you know what this is? All the other chrysalids seem healthy and well as do the cats. On a happer note, I'm expecting 20 monarchs to hatch in a few more days!! :D

Sometimes monarch caterpillars just don't pupate completely/properly - we see it in our own stock as well. There are a number of factors that could contribute to this (poor nutrition, genetic mutations, environmental conditions, etc.) but it is difficult to say for sure what happened to your cats this time around.

Good luck with the rest of your critters! :D
