Any chance taggers could input data directly for you online?

It must be a huge job inputting all the data from taggers, and then recoveries, too. Is there any way taggers can help you out by entering our data online for you? I will be re-writing my sheets anyway so it will be neater, and I just thought if there is a way to save a step for you, I would be happy to do it! I am assuming nothing like that is available now, but maybe something to think about in the future!

Online Data Submission

Postby Jim » Tue Oct 10, 2006 9:06 pm

We've definitely thought about this over the years and we may be getting closer to implementing such a system - but we're not quite there yet.

The short answer is we need more funding. Our constant financial struggle prevents us from enhancing our existing educational, conservation and research programs and creating new ones. We desperately need a sponsor with deep pockets so that we can stop worrying about keeping the program afloat and concentrate on the truly important things.

The longer answer is we are working on our tag and recovery databases when we can but it is a huge undertaking in terms of time and money to input and proofread our 11,000+ recovery records and 1,000,000(?)+ tagging records. As soon as we have a proper system in place we will certainly try to enable online data submission.

Stay tuned and if you hear of a possible source of funding for Monarch Watch please let us know! :D

I've often wondered the same thing. I'd love to help. I've often tried to think of ways to raise money to send. In the summer we have a "farmers market" here in town where people put up stands to sell flowers, fruit, crafts etc. I've thought of putting up a stand with pictures, milkweed and such to raise money. My problem is that i planted all my seeds last year/fall in hopes of growing more milkweed so I don't have any seeds this year. Maybe next year :)
