need help

Postby wagnuka » Thu Jan 25, 2007 3:59 pm

I had a monarch leave the pupa yesterday and I found her in the pool. She is alive but she has not been able to fly away its been 24 hours. My questions is, Should I bring her indoor until she can fly? WHAT SHOULD I DO???
Thank you

Try putting her in a spot exposed to the warm sun. If she is healthy she should fly away when she gets sufficiently warmed up. But if she doesn't fly even when warmed up then she may be sick and dying, possibly due to the dininfecting chemicals in the pool water. Also, you could try feeding her a 10% honey-water solution (1 part honey mixed with 10 parts water). Use a paper clip to uncoil her probosis and guide it down to the honey-water solution. She should begin feeding on her own if she is healthy. However, if she is sick and dying then she won't have the strength to keep her proboscis extended into the solution and therefore won't be able to feed.
