Favorite Butterfly Book or DVD?

Postby hawker » Wed Oct 04, 2006 11:14 am

What is your favorite book...other than ID type books?

Maybe somthing along the lines of Pyle's Chasing Monarchs. I also liked Four Wings and a Prayer by Halpern. I enjoy reading about other people who are interested in butterflies and their pursuits.

Thanks!

"An Obsession with Butterflies" by Sharman Apt Russell, is a short but facinating book. Google up a review.

What book would you recommend for a 9-year old?
I suddenly have a grandson (by marrige) who is interested in insects. I am thinking of sending him some tropical seeds along with a book.

Just hot off the presses. "How to Raise Monarch Butterflies" by local author ( local to me) Carol Pasternak. She has a website and is on Facebook.

'Monarch of the Butterflies', by Ken Parejko.

I like Dwayne's choice of "The Last Monarch Butterfly", also.

I received the book and have read it. I learned a few things and I think it is perfect for my grandson.

I would NOT recommend "The Last Monarch Butterfly". The alarmist title alone is a hint that it's overly sensationalized . Far from being endangered, monarchs are a weedy species that thrive in the most disturbed habitats imaginable: like overwintering on golf courses: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JEhT3Q6b5yE

A pretty good read, nonetheless. differences of opinions as well as differences in scientific/and quasi-scientific publications is part of our everyday life.
