Downloading Data: When and How?

Hi Jim et al,

Just surfed over to the Windows post (do NOT know why as I am a Mac user lol) and saw that others have already downloaded data from their Thermochrons.

Should we be doing this? If so, how? Will it be self-explanatory? How often should we be downloading? Will you be posting a NEW topic and should I just shut up and wait for further instructions from that??

Thanks and sorry if I'm way ahead of myself here. Just don't want to muck anything up.

Hi Sandy:

Some users have jumped ahead a little bit.

I will be posting further instruction this week and as things settle down for us we will be asking for a lot more feedback as we continue to develop this program.

I know a lot of folks are anxious to move forward and I apologize for the delay...this probably wasn't the best time of year for us to launch a new program but hindsight's always 20/20.

Hi again Jim!

Not to be a bother, and apologies in advance if I missed a post about downloading, but! I was just out in my garden and saw my poor little thermachron (which has survived wind, rain, hail, and tornado warnings in the past week and a half) shivering away next to the now scraggly looking milkweed and I was just wondering again if we should be doing any data downloading.

And if so, how.

While the monarchs are "vacationing" in Mexico, I decided to try a few experiments with the Thermochron. Instead of the once/hour sample, I set it up for once every 10 min to study my freezers and refrigerator to see how closely they kept a "set" temperature and what the temperature dials really mean. So far, I have determined that my frost free White/Westinghouse freezer/refrigerator purchased in August of 1986 with a freezer setting of 5 (almost maximum) USUALLY maintains a temperature of 7.7 to 11.3 degrees F with occasional and erratic spikes to 24 (maybe defrost? but not at same time of day). The refrigerator section with a setting of 4 (less than 1/2 of max) only varies between 35.6 & 36.5! My freezer purchased in December of 1981 maintains between minus 1.3 and plus 2.3 degrees F with a "setting" between B & C (range is A to D).
What does it all have to do with Monarchs - nothing, but I am gaining experience using the Thermochron and the associated software while Jim works on the Degree Day spreadsheet and reporting procedures.
I may just purchase a few of these for my own use. Maybe even one that does humidity too.
