Installation using Windows Platform

I just did the installation for Windows users. The instructions were great and the installation time took maybe 15 minutes for me. Everything worked just as you have instructed.

I, too, am up and running without a hitch. The installation was not a problem, and the iButton seems to be functioning fine...temperature data are being collected daily.

The only thing I have noticed thus far with regards to temperature collection is that the post I have my iButton mounted on does not completely shade the device. Consequently, I have noticed temperatures that are significantly higher than those reported at the local airport when the sensor is in the direct sun in the afternoon. Otherwise, we are plugging along...

I wondered about that too- maybe it needs a little foil "sunhat", maybe just covering the upper surface with foil, shiny side up?

For a techno-klutz like me, the installation went off without a hitch, MANY THANKS for clear directions! The logger is now running in our Children's Learning Garden, in our milkweed bed. While I was determining north, a monarch nectared at the nearby milkweeds. A Monarch monitoring the monitor?

Questions:
Is there a particular reason to face the logger north?
There is an alarm mentioned, does this mean that logger can sound off if the temperature gets out of safe developmental range?

One item I would like, instructions on making the OneWireViewer or the logger download sheet application appear as a short cut icon on my computer. How to do that may seem basic knowledge to most folks but not to me. As I said, I'm a techno-klutz, have to really work at using remote controls on AV equipment, etc! I had to download the viewer at the end of one day and give the logger its new mission the next. Because I didn't see it listed when I opened up "my computer" I had to use the computer's search engine to find where the darn application was to relaunch it!

My PC computer at work is put together by a local company with Ram: 256k, Hard Drive: 40gig, & CD-Rom, so it is a mix of makes and models.

Operating System and version: Windows 2000 Professional, Microsoft Office 2000

Spreadsheet program Microsoft Excel is installed, is that what we are using, or is it a separate spreadsheet program that is compatible?

If the download instructions are posted by Thursday, I'll retreive data on that day, or just wait until after Labor Day.

Placing the logger on the north side of a post will expose it to the least amount of direct sun - this will give a more accurate reading of the air temperature. We may need to come up with a more sophisticated heat shield but that's a topic for another day.

To create a "shortcut" to the Windows OneWireViewer simply right-click the following link and save the target file to your desktop:

Now you can just double click that file's icon whenever you want to launch the application.

Excel will be fine for analysis.
