Very large male monarch. A true fairytale!

Postby Keith Petrosky » Sat Oct 02, 2004 5:44 pm

I was tagging monarchs, and saw a very large one on a plant. I caught it, figuring it was a female, but turns out it was a very large male! I named him Brutus. (tag # CAW556) He was the largest monarch I had ever seen. Then I saw something equally as strange. A tiny monarch, smaller than average, landed on a nearby plant. I tagged it (tag # CAW557), and discovered it was a female! I named her Thumbalina, due to her small size. Now I saw the biggest, and smallest monarchs ever! Then, I discovered an even bigger surprise! Brutus chased Thumbalina, and started mating with her! They flew off happily together! :D

Hi Keith,

I like that story! :D

When weeding, the best way to make sure you are removing a weed and not a valuable plant is to pull on it. If it comes out of the ground easily, it is a valuable plant.
