Where did all of the old posts go?

Postby Jim » Fri Oct 25, 2013 10:49 am

Those of you that have visited the Monarch Watch Forums before are probably wondering where all of the old posts went. Well, we are in the process of pruning the more than 16,000 posts to make the information contained therein more accessible. As we go through the posts we will add topics to the "Popular Topics" forum - we will also monitor the activity in the main "All Things Monarch" forum to determine what other topics should be added.

Pruning the posts will certainly take some time (a nice winter project!) so please bear with us - thanks! :cheesy:

Jim,
I listed a slide show on here. Will I still have access to that? It
had pictures that I would like to keep.

Rebecca:

I see a few references to your slideshows but it looks like you shared them via a link to http://www.librarylady.us/butterflylady.html (which does not appear to be active right now).

Jim
Any updates to the Excel Degree Day worksheets using the Thermochron temperature loggers? Updates were to be posted here. Otherwise I'll continue to use the old one.
Monarch Waystation 299 is still using 2 Thermochron temperature data loggers [amazing the battery life on these], converting data to the Degree Day worksheets and sending them in. Last I heard you all still wanted us to do that.
Please let me know if this has changed.

Thanks!

I'm saddened at the loss of the old forums - I found them an invaluable source of information and support.

I miss the old forums too. There was a lot of practical information and some awesome contributors.

i am getting ready for the 2014 season ...
add my name to the list of people who are disappointed that you've removed an entire encyclopedia of first hand information from this forum. i've used this forum for years and have found it invaluable ... actually Mona was an invaluable resource ... issues were discussed in the forum that i can recall seeing, but since i didn't need that information immediately, i just made a mental note that i could come back to this forum at any time, and find the answer here .... now it's gone ... :(
it is a shame ...

Count me in with the others regarding the removal of the old posts on this forum. As a fledgling Monarch enthusiast I have relied on the forum to answer the many questions that I have had. I am very sad that I can no longer refer to the forum. I can only guess at the reasons you may have had for why you did it, but I sincerely believe that it was a mistake. I would also like to add that as it stands now, this forum is pretty much useless.

If you are "pruning" all those old, wonderful posts, does that mean that portions of the missing posts will reappear? It would be a terrible shame if they were all gone; there was an incredible wealth of information contained in those postings. There was, indeed, fluff that could be pruned without missing anything, but I would love to see the bulk of what has been removed replaced...

First the tag recovery database is gone, now the bulk of the forum. Can we at least have separate topics back? I'd like to read about the monarchs' progress north but without the different categories, it's very difficult. I understand running a forum is a big job (my husband has run a very large forum for several years), but sometimes it's best to take baby steps. Clearly this was much bigger than a "winter project." :?
