I wasn't sure this is the best place to post this, but I thought this particular chapter might be of interest. 8) You'll have to read a bit to find where milkweed is mentioned:

Interesting article. I live in Erie PA and was cited last year for "weeds and grasses over 10 inches" under the city housing code. I fought back and never heard back so my garden continues to grow for the wildlife/butterflies.

When it doesn't rain, I don't mow. People in my neighborhood are killing their lawns with continual mowing. Many of them hire lawn services. I get some of the coolest butterflies. They love weeds.

If you're in an area with fireflies, they will hole up in longer lawns during the day. When they come out at night they light the lawn up. For this reason, my back lawn never gets mowed during their active summer months.

I have plenty of fireflies. I also don't leave my porch light on all night. Light pollution is causing a decline in fireflies, too. I have my mower set at the highest setting 3 1/2". I do not mow every week and don't mow some areas at all. I have a 6' fence so the backyard isn't totally visible.
