Lavender leafhopper? New York

Postby skates4marty » Tue Jun 26, 2012 1:03 pm

I was visiting New York, near Corning, and saw a beautiful bug on the underside of common milkweed. I did not have my camera. It looked like a leafhopper. It was a lovely, even, lavender. No spots. Several to a leaf. I have looked on BugGuide.net but can't find one with the even, striking lavender I saw. Any ideas?

Google "Carol Freeman, pink katydid". For some reason, I cannot clip and paste.

Leafhoppers (Order: Hemiptera (true bugs), Family: Cicadellidae) come in many colors :D

A friend just posted a pink leaf hopper, maybe this is yours.

"This is a two-striped Planthopper, Acanalonia bivattata. Most Two-striped Planthoppers are green, but occasionally one sees a pink one. I like the contrast between the two, and also the psychedelic eyes."
