First eggs of 2012 in Toronto

Postby chanceychelsey » Wed May 16, 2012 10:51 am

I just went out on lunch to find 6 eggs on the milkweed at work. I was unable to check some plants as there was a vehicle parked in the way.

It's going to be a busy season!

We have eggs here in Sarnia, too. I posted on Monarch Rearing. I had 8 eggs all hatch and were on their way until today when 5 died. I think the other 3 are going, too. Perhaps the female had OE? I've never had this happen before! My Grade 4/5 class will be so disappointed on Tuesday.

I don't usually lose many at the beginning of the season, I find that more so later on. That is too bad. One of my co-workers is always hoping the eggs will be early so his childrens class at school can see the process. I will keep my fingers crossed that the ones I have will be okay.

Did you sterilize your containers before you used them?
