The University of Minnesota offers workshops too hosted by monarch scientists http://www.monarchlab.org/store/c-3-cla ... shops.aspx

My understanding is Monarch Teachner Network is a private business that's not affliated with an academic institution. And my understanding MTM instructor(s) are monarch enthusiasts, but not monarch scientists. Is that your understanding too?

In other words, any experienced enthusiast, such as a yourself, could start a workshop business like MTM, if they wanted to, and eventually earn $100,000 a year (if the workshops became popular). Is that your understanding too or am I missing something?

No that is not correct. And, you are high jacking my topic again.

The Monarch Teacher Network is part of EIRC (Educational Information Resource Center). They are a non-profit and so is the Monarch Teacher Network.

http://www.eirc.org/
"“Helping People Help Kids”

EIRC is a public agency specializing in education-related programs and services for parents, schools, communities, nonprofit organizations and privately held businesses throughout New Jersey. Our programs also reach into more than 36 states and 8 foreign countries.

We offer a great many resources under one roof. These range from gifted and special education services to creative problem solving…from nationally validated programs in science, mathematics and geography to child care and child assault prevention … from web development, graphics and printing to computer instruction … and from teacher in-service and curriculum design to international exchange programs."

This is a response from Erik Mollenhauer, Director, Monarch Teacher Network

"Monarch Teacher Network is not a business of any kind. Monarch Teacher Network is a project of the Educational Information and Resource Center (EIRC), a New Jersey public agency located near Philadelphia. EIRC develops and provides educational programs and services across New Jersey, in many other states and in a number of countries. Both EIRC and the Monarch Teacher Network collaborate with other organizations (including universities) and we work with many people (including scientists). EIRC has been in operation for over 40 years; Monarch Teacher Network is in its 11th year. The Network consists of many monarch enthusiasts (thank you all), who volunteer time, expertise and passion to help monarchs, people, the environment and Monarch Teacher Network. I personally find Monarch Teacher Network folks to be wonderful, knowledgeable people. Some are among the finest people I have ever known… and have become dear friends. Some (myself included) have advanced science degrees: SO WHAT? Many EIRC programs (Monarch Teacher Network included) rely on grant funds to carry out their work. Grant recipients are expected to produce results. Monarch Teacher Network produces results, or we won’t get funded.

In closing I want to say that I believe we accomplish more in this life by inspiring people… not by dragging them down. I will quote Jimmy Stewart on that point… when Stewart starred in the old black-and-white movie “Harvey” as the character Elwood P Dowd. At one point Elwood said:

Years ago my mother used to say to me… she’d say… “In this world, Elwood, you must be… (she always called me Elwood)… in this world, you must be Oh-so-Smart… or Oh-so-Pleasant.”

Well for years I was smart.

I recommend pleasant.

Paul: I recommend pleasant."
