Pinewood Milkweed (Asciepias Humistrata)

Yesterday, when I was out in my garden, I was looking over at my neighbor's large drainage ditch (it's about a half acre) and I saw what I thought looked like a milkweed. I went over and pinched a leaf off and it gave off a milky substance like a milkweed. I looked on the internet and it looks like the "Pinewood Milkweed" which I had never heard of. It said it is a native plant of Fl.
I dug it up and put it in my garden and I'm hoping it will make it. I assume a bird must have carried a seed.

Does anyone have this milkweed and can tell me something about it. Such as does it give off seeds,etc.

Thanks so much - that site gives alot of information on Pinewoods MW.

I got half of the root system so the plant may take root in my garden. Another one
will probably pop up where I got it since part of the root system is still in the ground.

I didn't read through the whole paper, but the research that I have read is that this milkweed is pretty toxic and gives the Monarch butterflies that eat it a lot of protection. They taste nasty.

That is a beautiful milkweed. I love the fact that the leaves and seed pods develop a purple color. It is also fascinating how the root system has adapted to fire. Hope your plant thrives in its new location!

It looks like it would be real pretty in bloom. So far it hasn't died or grown any. I just have to
wait and see what happens I guess.

When transplanted, they take a while to get settled.
