HELP--NEW MONARCH IN BALTIMORE

Postby dichatham » Mon Oct 31, 2011 8:43 am

Hi,
I had a late bloomer emerge on Friday in Baltimore. I brought him inside but don't know what to do. In Baltimore, it is 50s during the day and 40s to high 30s at night. We had ice on our windshields this am. Should I let him go during the afternoon and hope he makes it--or is it too late.
Thanks,
Diane

Tomorrow it is going to be around 60 degrees. Let him go. The cold will push him further south. There are still nectar sources. The wood asters have not been killed by the frost.

Our current temps are what Mexico is like. The Monarchs cannot withstand temperatures below freezing for long periods of time.

Mona,

Thanks so very much. I'll set him free tomorrow around 12-1 pm when it's warm and hope for the best.
