2 Mating pairs in NE!!

Postby Mia Monarch! » Sat Sep 10, 2011 8:02 am

I have seen 2 mating pairs in the last month., in Norfolk, NE!!
This picture is of a pair that had been flounderng in one of my flower beds, kind of under some flowers. I picked them up and put them on a table. Eventually, they must have flown away, as they were gone!! :)
This was on 8-20-2011, and I have seen another(?) pair around the first part of this week.
I have to tell you, it's retty difficult taking a picture with ONE hand, especially, if you are shakey!! Good thing there is a mechanism in the camera to prevent blur!! :)

They usually stay together for 24 hours. They were probably down hiding in the weeds so they wouldn't get eaten. They can fly while joined. The male does the flying.

I was watering and weeding at the time, and thought I needed to move them. Was I wrong????

Moving them can cause the male to release. It is best to leave them alone until they are finished mating.
