I went to my "grocery patch" this morning to look for eggs and cats, and the almost the whole patch that had been beautiful and pristine just a few days ago is now dead or dying. Someone had sprayed herbicide--I refuse to use the words "weed killer", because nothing is really a weed just a plant where it's not wanted--all over the entire area. It made me want to cry, because I picked lots of leaves from this patch last year and found quite a few cats there, too. I just don't understand why people want to kill something that isn't doing them any harm at all.
I found one 1st instar cat on a tiny plant that was still green and several eggs on dying plants. I put the cat and eggs on my good leaves. I'm hopeful they can survive, since they won't have eaten the poison. I'm definitely keeping them completely isolated from my other cats and eggs, just in case any poison residue is still on them.
