Ba Rae just posted a nice blog on Monarch Metamorphosis.

She also has an updated version of her "Monarchs, Milkweed, and More" book. It can be purchased at the Monarch Watch Shop:

(The website has been updated--nice.)

Don't forget to use the Amazon portal (for Monarch Watch) for all your Amazon purchases. They give a small percentage back to Monarch Watch:

Ba Rea's Blog says: "But at the end of the summer, a generation of monarchs comes out of chrysalis ready to live 8 months and take on a great migration to the monarch reserves in Mexico or, if they live in California and in the west, to roosts along the coast."

But actually:

1) The fall migration starts in mid-summer (1st week in August at latitude 48-52 degrees N) By the "end of summer" (Sept. 21) most fall migrant monarchs have not only already emerged, they've already moved south of the northern States like Nebraska, Iowa, Great Lakes states and New England.

2) Lots of "western" monarchs fly southeast to the monarch reserves in Mexico

I wish we could just designate a company for our discount and then not have to go through the portal. Next time...
