First Monarch of the Year

I was visiting a friend near Quincy, Illinois and saw a Monarch on April 11.

Saw one very tired monarch on May 18, 2011, in Naperville, Illinois. Haven't seen any others since. Hoped that it was a girl and it was. Collected 13 caterpillars in the past week and the first one is getting ready to pupate; it's been eating non-stop since yesterday and has grown to 2 1/2 inches long.
