My first wing repair, and 2 more cats found today

Postby Schmetterling » Thu Oct 07, 2010 5:13 pm

I had 2 chrysalis in one rearing tent, the first one eclosed and a few hours later I found it stuck between the screen and post ( another good reason to have the post on the outside). Sadly it didn't make it. Next day the other eclosed with a slightly damaged wing. I have seen the video on wing repair, but didn't have all the supplies recommended. The monarch could not fly, so it was try it or euthanize. I just used super glue, and the wing from the one that died following the directions on the you tube video. It spent some time on my butterfly bush enjoying the sun and nectar went back to check a few hours later and it was gone. While searching, for it, I wasn't confident it would make it far, yes 2 more cats!!! 3rd and 4 th instars. What's a few more. Feeding 2 will be a breeze. I never found the repaired butterfly. I didn't tag her, maybe I should have. That would have been a hoot if she made it to Mexico.
