Cup O' Monarch

Postby Mona Miller » Sat Aug 14, 2010 7:10 pm

I didn't want to put these into my Glad containers because I found them outside and some older larvae can be parasitized. So, I grabbed a 12 ounce plastic cup and put some plastic wrap over the top. I did put about 4 holes with a corn holder in the top. I think these would be great for the classroom. Easy to see into.

12 ounce plastic cup, plastic wrap on top, rubber band so contents, doesn't fall out accidentially. I put about 4 small holes with a corn holder in the top.

A closer look at the 5th instar larvae.

Younger larvae, no rubber band. The plastic wrap is strong enough to hold them in.

I took them to the park today to show the people on my walk. The kids loved them.

You can take a small piece of wet paper towel and wrap the leaf stem, then take a piece of plastic wrap and wrap them both. Secure with a twist tie or rubber band.
