First spring sighting

Postby crazycoot » Sat May 22, 2010 9:15 pm

We had two (2) Monarch Butterflies on the acreage this afternoon. They were trying to feed but the winds (30+ mph sustained) were making it difficult. Hope they don't blow past us before they can make some milkweed stops! (We have plenty of Asclepias here)

Finally - I sighted my first monarch of the season. It was on the butterfly bush in my garden. It was perfectly formed but didn't stay long enough for me to see if it was a male or female. My milkweeds are about 3 feet tall, so I will check for eggs.

Seeing them frequently over the last two weeks in our small garden (Shawnee, KC suburb) - about one sighting every other evening. No eggs as of yet but the garden has exploded due to all the rain and heat as of late.
