Type of Mulch

Postby drexel.n@gmail » Mon Apr 12, 2010 7:43 am

I am preparing to buy mulch for my yard and am wondering if the milkweeds prefer a certain kind. I read one of Mona's posts that tropical likes acidic soil, so pine bark is good. Is this true of other milkweeds as well? And will my roses like it? How does cyprus compare?

Thanks bunches for the advice!

I'd look at the ph requirements. The pine bark will make the soil more acid. Dave's Garden website does requirements for plants.

This is Showy Milkweed:
http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/179790/
Soil pH requirements:
5.1 to 5.5 (strongly acidic)
5.6 to 6.0 (acidic)
6.1 to 6.5 (mildly acidic)
6.6 to 7.5 (neutral)
