What's blooming right now? Zone 5

Postby branduin » Fri Sep 30, 2011 3:52 pm

Just wondering what's blooming right now in similar climates to mine. I am in zone 5 north-western Illinois. I have a handful of things blooming and I also have hummingbird feeders and trays of rotten fruit out but I'd like to expand and get more things so that I have more nectar to offer at the end of the season. These are the main things that are still blooming in my yard:

Zinnias
Lantana
Cat Mint
Sedum
Mums
Marigolds
Russian Sage

I have some small Butterfly Bushes to plant which I know will be good but what else could I plant that would still be blooming at the end of butterfly season?

I've got Late flowering thoroughwort, goldenrods, green-headed coneflower, new england asters, tick seed sunflower, plus Brazilian verbena, butterfly bush (which is being eaten big time by the brown marmorated stink bug), Lantana, Bright Lights Cosmos.
