Fall, Cool Weather, Monarchs Still Laying

Postby Mona Miller » Fri Sep 04, 2009 11:20 pm

I was out today watering, putting a bit more soil into my milkweed tubs, and would you believe watching a very faded Monarch laying eggs. She was so intent on laying that I got within a foot of her. She was even brushing against my legs as she fluttered around the milkweed plants.

I just hope the weather holds for another month so these guys can get on the road themselves. I had to mail some Monarchs to VA Beach last year via express mail. It doesn't freeze down there and I have a friend who has a nice property with nectar sources.

Fall begins September 22, but it already feels like it is here.
