Buying milkweed and other plants

Postby MWilson » Mon May 30, 2005 12:54 pm

Hi all,
Yesterday I received in the mail our country conservation newsletetr and it had information about Monarch Waystations so today after reading about them on this site I ordered a kit.
My concern is with me having to stratify the seeds before I plant them (which will be about mid July) that they won't be of much use then.I am going to check our local nursery and see if I can find milkweed plants but if not, can they be purchased online?
Thanks,
Mark W.

finding milkweed

Finding a safe supply of milkweed at nurseries is very hard. Most milkweed sold is likely to have had pesticides and Bt used on it. Both make it unsafe for caterpillars. I know of just a few sources in my area I trust. I try to raise my own milkweed, but it's hard to do that. Sometimes I have to buy some plants.

I bought some of my milkweed off ebay. And some from home depo this year.
I have eggs on both now.
The lady from home depo said that some of their milkweed actually had cocoons on them already. (sold)
So I am hoping everything will turn out ok.

The buyer I bought from off ebay is called plantranch
