Which Milkweed?

Postby petereeles » Thu Jan 17, 2008 2:09 pm

Hi all,

Last year I visited the Dominican Republic and managed to photograph a Monarch ovipositing. I'd really like to know what foodplant is being used - given the location, I expect Asclepias nivea (Caribbean Milkweed), but since I live in the UK, I'm not overly-familiar with different Milkweed species! Photos can be seen at:

Thanks in advance for any help.

Cheers,

Your pictures appear to be that of the Carribean milkweed. That would account for the reason that the Monarchs were using it to lay on.
