Paint Strainers

Postby Gwynne » Sat Jul 29, 2006 9:09 am

I happened to pass a hardware shop yesterday and was going to go in but they were closed. I went to the next shop which I thought was another hardware shop but was a paint shop. I asked the gentleman if he had any screening. He said no, but the guy next door probably did, but he was already closed. He asked what I needed it for and I told him caterpillars. Instead of giving me a strange look, he took me over to the paint strainers. He said he wanted to be honest, screening was a lot cheaper, but if I needed something in an emergency, he had one gallon paint strainers for 1.69 and five gallon ones for 1.99. I appreciated his honestly and bought a five gallon one. I see lots of possibilities. Since it is flexible and can easily be cup up, I can cut a secion and put it over almost any container I might be using to rear caterpillars. I could put it on the side and floor of my aquarium in case anyone falls while emerging from their chrysalises. I dont know if this item has been mentioned before but just wanted to let people know that I think it could have a lot of good uses.

Hi Gwynne,
I know just what you are talking about. My husband brought me home some from work. And I thought it was a great idea, but I found that the fabric is too shiny and slippery too work with and the holes in the mesh are not far enough apart for the butterflies to climb on should they need to. But let me know how it works for you! Your paint strainers may be different than the ones I had.And Kudos to that Hardware store guy for helping!
