Caterpillar in J for a long time - Worried

Postby GBMonarch » Thu Jul 27, 2006 7:58 am

I wanted to post this as a new topic since I asked it at the end of an old thread and need a quick answer. I have a caterpillar with a few dark spots by it's tail. I thought it was just it's markings . It acted normally and has now been in the J postion since early yesterday evening. Usually my other caterpillars make the chrysalis very quickly, he's still hanging and it's 8 am the next day.

I'm worried he may have that parasite that I've read about in the forum. If he doesn't make the chrysalis by the end of today should I take him out of the cage? If he does have it will he have already infected my healthy ones?

Worried...

Hi GB.. I responded to you in the other thread. But I have had some "slow pokes" that have taken up to a day and half longer than their "brothers and sisters" to pupate. I wouldn't worry. 8)

Happy news my "slow poke" made it into his chrysalis! It's a big one and it looks perfect. Maybe it takes longer when you're a big cat.

I am glad he made it okay! I had one take over 12 hours today. He just finished up doing his thing!
